Last weekend my son Avery and I went to Rantoul, Ill to a tractor show. My father restores B.F.Avery tractors.(notice the name) We found a guy in the flea market selling display cases. Avery perked up and said "Dad that would be great for my rock collection!" So I bought him one. Monday night I stained it for him and coated it with polyurethane. Last night he spent about an hour putting his rocks in the seperate compartments. Most of his rocks are small geodes that we broke up or rock fragments from when i crush rocks. He was very proud of his collection. It is fun to watch kids having fun. Here is Avery on a B.F.Avery tractor from the 1940's. If anybody ever find any old antique wrenches that say B.F.Avery let me know. My dad collects them too.Brett

Hey Brett, if anyone would have told me ten years ago that I'd spend time going to cruiseins and auto flea markets...and LIKING it...i'd have wondered what they'd been smoking. However, since I do manage to go to a good number of events where wrenches and things mechanical are sold, could you tell me (an IM would be fine if you don't want to clog the board) what a reasonable price range for the wrenches would be? I'd be happy to look for them for you.

Hello Brett,
You have to love the old tractors! Our County Fair has an Antique Tractor Pull every year ... talk about a sight to see. There are some that are from the 1920's and 1930's, that make the event every year.
We have a family in Stanton County (our next door neighbors - 3 1/2 miles west of us) that collects/restores these great machines of the past. He has even rebuilt a couple of tractors with 500 horsepower fuel injected engines that have a three inch exhayst system (about two foot long!). When they are hooked up to the weighted sled and he puts his foot into the gas pedal ... the air through entire fairgrounds shake from that horse of an engine! Fire (out of the exhaust) shooting into the night sky is an asweome sight to see. My son and I go every year and when he is going down the weighted slad course (100 yards) you can be setting right next to each other and be litterally yelling at each other and you wont be able to hear each other ... you can't even hear your own voice! Hearing protection is a must at this event.
I hit a lot of auctions out here in this part of the country, I'll keep an eye open for those wrenches as well.
Just out of curiosity, is your family the inventors/manufacturers of this farm equipment? Or is the fact that the tractors name is Avery and your son's name is Avery, just a coincidence?
Enjoy,
John

John, I used go to tractor pulls in TX years ago when they were the real deal, like you discribed. Now it's just the monster truck show off show. I loved watching the fire shoot from the exhaust as the weight on the sled shifted from back to front. But of course the best part was when an engine blew and parts went flying through the air. A guilty pleasure I guess cookie

Avery is my son's middle name. My ex wife insisted that his first name be different. Well, nobody likes his first name and neither does he so we call him by Avery.

Brett,,,
That's great that you have your son interested in rocks/minerals.
I take 2 of my grandsons to a local garnet mine every now and then and they can't get enough of it!!!
Thanks for the pic,,,,,,,,,,,
