As the seasons change one of often reminded of how nature always shows us that the plants and trees we love will be back in Spring to inspire, calm and provide us with joy and hope. This piece was inspired by an actual tree on my land. The yellows are Citrine. The greens, Peridot and the reds/oranges Carnelian. When I saw the tree, with a few green leaves holding on, almost in defiance of Fall, I knew I needed to capture the spirit of that tree. I could not make the silver base totally round, due to the branch structure of the tree. It is located next to a stand of Pines, hence the shorter branches on the left. There were portions of branches that had no leaves. I think I captured the tree as best as I could. To me jewelry and lapidary creations are not about perfection. With jewelry, it is capturing inspiration from nature. With lapidary work it is listening to the stone and letting it guide me. This is a piece I am keeping for myself. Thanks for looking. 1

I like that! Fall and spring are my favorite times of year. Death and re-birth
Trees BY JOYCE KILMER I think that I shall never see A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day, And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain; Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me, But only God can make a tree.
