Howdy folks! Christa and I got the chance Wednesday to get out of the big shitty city and spend a day out in nature. A trip to the river was top on my mind, and the day turned out splendid! We both snapped a few pics along the way. Everything was nice and green due to the recent rains After the long hike down we’re almost to the area There were many flowers blooming out there. Not so sure on ID’s here, hopefully rockpickerforever can chime in here These were growing on vines over other bushes.. I'm think Morning Glories? This one was similar but red Some pretty orange flowers.. California Poppies maybe? These big white blooms are all over out there. And some very pretty trumpet blooms, the only one of these I spotted there So one thing that was trippy, the ground was crawling with caterpillars! Jean do you know what these are? They were literally crawling and falling into pools of water. They’d wiggle a bit then sink to the bottom This one was very different from the rest Finally made it down to the river which is running muddy from the resent monsoons We hounded a bit then relaxed in the shade and had a picnic. It was terrific! Soon the skies above us got noisy and we looked up to see a horde of crows above. If you zoom in you’ll see over 50 in this pic (yes I was counting crows) Really wild sight! Finally it was time to hike out. Stopped along the way and took a pic of my darling wife We got up to the car and had a friend waiting for us! I took those two, Christa took this one What a great day! I will be posting the rock haul on the Specimens board. Found a real good one Thanks for coming along!

Beautiful pictures! You are correct that those are morning glories and yellow poppy The yellow and black Caterpillar are the white-lined sphinx moth Not sure what the other one is

I also enjoyed your trip and want you'll back out real soon. Was the horse tame and what kind of rock material is found?

Thanks a bunch everyone! mohs yup that's the dirty Verde bud MsAli thanks for the confirmation on the Glories and the ID on the caterpillars! I was very conscious about trying to avoid stepping on them at first, but there was just so many that after a while I had to periodically stop and scrape goo from the bottom of my shoe victor1941 Thanks! The horse became my best friend after I gave him some kettle chips. I was wishing I had something a bit more healthy on hand like an apple or carrot, but he didn't complain at all. rockjunquie and quartz thanks! It was a most memorable day and I'm glad we took pics to share with you all! taylor are you from the Verde Valley? I thought you were down around Tucson? I appreciate you all!

beefjello, yes you are correct we are on the other side of the Santa Catalinas from Tucson. Your first picture with the mesquite and the mountain is so Arizona to me. We have been in Wyoming for most of the summer. Looking forward to Arizona in a few weeks.
