The lace is very nice, but that stefoinite is awesome! You previously mentioned about having a thick stefoinite slab that required a lot of grinding. This one was over 3/8+ and I decided to grind it down rather than splitting it. It has a very high dome.

I didn't trust myself to split mine. My 80 grit wheel is serviceable now but not aggressive like when new so I didn't want to spend the time taking it down to just make it thinner. The cab is quite heavy which as a cab is fine. Setting it might make the jewelry too heavy. The piece is solid and the pattern goes all the way through. I could take it down in the future.

Nice looking set I'm a sucker for the stefoinite - it's beautiful stuff. Kind of funny but when I saw your post title yesterday I thought hmmm... someone else had a garbage day? I ended up stopping on four different cabs in utter frustration. No breakage, just serious undercutting on a Tiffany I should have stabilized and now it's ruined, and I couldn't get past scratches on three others. I'm hoping today will be better or I might just quit for the weekend and just start photographing and posting last week's mess.

Yeah, I think I'll grind mine instead of cutting it. I don't trust myself to split it. When I'm dealing with a too-thick slab that is not thick enough to split I still try to save my hands and wrists by taking off as much of the surface as possible on the trim saw. I usually give it two passes through at an angle and remove excess material forming sort of a tent shape before heading to the grinders.

I have a couple real hard ones that should help with. I have a BEAUTIFUL rhodochrosite which I will attempt to split, though. I'll take pics for a thread when I do. I have to get up the nerve though. But, it is too sweet to grind it all away. I have one of those paper thin blade trim saws that should work.
