ok here's that 12# monster rock from kingsley north that i have been beating and banging on since april. i finally gave in today and requested help from my husband (oh i hated to do that) who gave it to our 2 mexican employees along with some kind of jack hammer drill and in no time flat they had it cracked where i can finally fit it under the saw blade. what a beauty! it is a a blue purple rock with banding in the center. the first pic shows the banding the best but not the color very well. the second pic shows the color. i hope it doesn't take me another 5 months to get it sawed for tumbling. kim

Hey Kim. Aren't those Brazillian agates awesome. I don't know if you have the capability to cut slabs on your saw, but if you do, they are definetly worth the trouble. I just got my slab saw back together and I have cut some slabs from two different Brazilian agates, and I was amazed at what I found inside. I'll post some pics if I can get some decent shots. They have become my favorite stone. Good luck with your batch. They take a long time to tumble, but the wait is well worth it.

Great rock, but does it matter that your employees are Mexican? Do they crack rocks better than Italian, Nigerian, or Swedish employees?

cher it only comes in i think 5# or more chunks.
kd i can tell more about the fracturing after i saw on it. i hope it doesn't fracture in the tumbling process.
toad yes i think they can but i'm a little prejudice re: them because i think they are marvelous. but just to be sure i asked them what they thought. i don't speak spanish very well but they were still laughing on their way to their truck.

Rocky,
I resent that. Being Greek(among many other things), I think that I can crack agate with the best of them.
What nationality would you recommend to split a stubborn hunk of jasper?

Kim, that is beautiful! I have 3 big chunks of brazilian agate - cut a slab off one and it's beautiful blue with some smokey white thru it. The other two I haven't done anything with yet,
Mexican? Do they crack rocks better than ....
Around here there are a number of Mexicans that do rock work. They seem to have a knack for hitting the stone at just the right place. It is fascinating to watch them rccking a house or something. They pick up the stone, run their fingers over it, turn it over and over, then WHACK! An almost perfectly straight break. It's like they are talking to the rock, asking where to whack it.
Don't know about Greeks, Italians or anybody else, but around here the Mexicans experienced in rock work can bust up a rock better.

Like Tood the "Mexican" word surprised me. Founded it complety unnecessary to the issue. Do you see other people in this board mentioning the white southern ups driver, the Italian postal carrier, the Chinese professor, the gay bus driver, the fat teacher or the Jewish accountant? If you want a happy forum avoid that types of unnecessary remarks, no one likes stereotypes and prejudices. I was thinking of joining this group, I'm not to sure now...

Sands, I don't see the big deal either. It certainly was not said in any derogatory manner.
If you want a happy forum avoid that types of unnecessary remarks,
Actually, Carmen, we have a very happy board. If you and Todd are unhappy or offended because Rocky described the fellas who busted up her rock as Mexicans and are going to make a big deal out of it, ya'll are the ones with the problem, not us. Now, if she would have said "those dirty Mexicans" that would be a whole 'nother story. But she didn't and for you or Todd to be offended is just ridiculous. Guess you missed the post where Rocky apologized if she offended or is an apology not good enough for you.
Furthermmore, Mexicans are wonderful stone workers. Better than any white person I have ever seen.
I was thinking of joining this group, I'm not to sure now...
And, if you decide not to join the forum over something so foolish, then seems to me you are more interested in being PC than rocks.
BTW, I get quite offended when people attempt to tell me, and others, what we can or cannot say.
