Last weekend I went out to the middle of no where and dug for quartz crystal. It was miserable, hot, dusty, still smelled of smoke from the fire. I wasnt having fun at that time. I didnt bring back alot, did end up with 2nd degree burn and lost almost 6lbs in 8 hours.😂 It was hard work, but I'll do it again in a heartbeat, that is when it isnt so hot. So here is my question and please bear with me for maybe being ignorant about this But, what do you look for to see if there is gold in it? All around us is gold claims, so it isnt unreasonable to possibly find gold where we were I have them soaking in iron out now. They were in vinegar, but that didnt do much I looked online, but it didnt help much Thank you

MsAli , Gold in quartz is pretty obvious in most cases. I'm sure there are types I've not seen but I've cut quite a few gold/quartz cabs over the years. This is one I cut several years ago -- that gold is pretty obvious since it's one of the very few metals that don't tarnish. Pyrite in quartz is often mistakenly thought to be gold.

Nice quartz. I like the hints of colors in some.

Nice quartz. I like the hints of colors in some. Some are really nice. There is one that has little red crystals in it.

I agree, it generally seems to be in unmistakable veins. There's a couple on ebay right now you can see. It's quite obvious.

See that is what I get confused about. It coming in many forms and may be small. I would assume I would still be able to tell what it is Tat rose quartz is incredible. That would be a lucky find

If in doubt about a specimen test it with a pin or other sharp tool. If it's gold it will deform slightly. Pyrite will shatter into tiny pieces.
