Rookie mistake-----applied too much pressure on the purple 220 grit diamond flat lap disc on my Ameritool 8", and it appears there is virtually no grit left on it.
I'm in Illinois-----wanting to give the 220 grit stage another shot, a.s.a.p., I did some looking on ebay, and found a seller, close, in Texas, called GreenForestLapidary-----------their prices are right, at least 30% less than the ameritool discs.
But, having seen many mentions on RTH of a lot of substandard flat lap discs being sold out there, I thought it would be a good idea to ask and see if anybody has bought and used discs from this seller, to help me make an informed purchase decision.

Think I've looked at Green Forest before. I could be wrong, but they might be re-selling imported stuff. Usually much better in the long run to buy better quality brands. On most things the better performance and longevity under normal conditions will more than make up the initial price difference.
You'll develop a feel pretty quickly for when your laps are cutting like they should. If something is taking too long on a particular grit, just drop back to a coarser one - using a lighter touch. Now that you've had this experience, you will remember how it felt applying that amount of pressure and be able to adjust in the future.

Vince,
You hit it on the head---------things were taking too long on the 220 grit-------it didn't occur to me at that time that I could go back to the 120 grit disc----------I sure do remember the sound it was making, so I'll have to use it as an alert to step back when I hear it.
Thanks for your input!

Green forest discs are from China, they state this and have a 60 day no questions asked return policy. they ship for free both ways and i got my package in 3 days. its not crystallite but they are good enough for me, aggressive great for agate. they sell powder and paste both mono and poly

Good to hear from someone who has bought and used their products. I'd seen the listings but never tried them.
Thanks for posting that info.
