Hello! ;D
I finally received my new Chicago Dual Drum Tumbler by the end of the week.;D;D;D
Actually I was very surprised at it’s quality and craftsmanship. I was really expecting a cheap looking tumbler. Who knows maybe it is an updated version but this is a solid tumbler with a lot of nice details. I’m very happy that I ordered it and for only $29.99!
They look so cute together! the Lortone is blue & a little longer and the Chicago is red & taller. Let's hope they enjoy each other's company and maybe with some luck, the divine tumbler stork will bring us a tiny purple one! Hee-hee-hee;D
Anyway...after exploring my tumbler for a while these are the little things that concerned me about my new Chicago:
The motor looks well-done but I noticed that the motor pulley (fan motor) and the drive pulley are made of white plastic. I immediately decided to do my cooling mod in the motor cover to try to prevent any heat damage to these sensitive parts. Time will tell me if it works or not, but I’m already prepared with a couple of extra motors (Lortone) just in case.
Another thing noticed was the lack of the logo cardboard for the barrel lid. I made some in order to protect the metal lid from scratches and they also look very nice. I laminated all of them to keep them usable for a very long time.
The space for the barrels is very limited but I experienced no problem with my barrels once I adjusted the white nylon stops. When I have the time, I will try one idea that I have that could make things easier with the barrels on both the Chicago and the Lortone. The Chicago has limited space for the barrels and the Lortone has a little too much for my taste.
Things about the Chicago that I like:
The PRICE!!!
The ON & OFF Switch!
The well-ventilated bottom motor cover.
The idea of double metal sheets to the top motor cover which adds more ventilation to the sides. In my Lortone I drilled small holes all around the same area just to get the added ventilation. So far just great.
They way it looks and was finished, nice shape, paint job, rubber feet, nylon stops, drive shafts. I see that they took care of doing a neat job.
The barrels are basically the same with only small differences and are compatible with the Lortone tumbler. In order to use the Lortone barrels with the Chicago all you have to do is to use the Chicago lids (outer & Inner) and knurled nuts with the Chicago barrels.
In order to use the Chicago barrels with the Lortone tumbler all you have to do is to place them in the tumbler and start tumbling! I have no plans of buying $20.00 barrels anymore, the Chicagos cost around $8.00!
