This what happens when your goes to estate sales. This got me started in the hobby! thousands of dollars later in equipment......... She got this pile for 100 bucks in 2000.

That's an enormous amount of rock! Holy cow, I'd probably faint if I ran across a sale like that.
Best we ever did was at an estate sale of a geologist who worked in the mines in Jerome. All the rock was in a shelter with a roof and shelves. Saw some gold glittering under all the dirt on a rock (they must have sat there for years untouched), so Vince went and asked the gal who was running the sale how much for all the rock? She asked him if there was anything good in there and Vince told her he didn't know, there was too much dirt on them to even see. She said, "$10.00?" Vince made himself look undecided and then said ok and peeled off a $10. We went home with 300 lbs of rock stuffed into a Mustang. The gold turned out to be some really nice chunks of Apache Gold.

The Maury Mountain Moss agate and the Obsidian I posted were from this pile! Also the Buchanan And Succor creek thundereggs.
