Spent a miserable, drizzly day Friday on the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands in South Dakota. Long drive, crappy weather, but worth it. Some finds for the day. Let me know if you have any thoughts on ID's for some of these. #1 - Fairburn Agate - Stood out like a sore thumb with that bright orangish color. About 2 1/2" across #2 - Prairie Agates #3 - Prairie Agate #4 - Misc....something #5 - Bubblegum Agates #6 - Agate #7 - Prairie Agate #8 - Prairie Agate #9 - Misc...agate?

Great finds. I'm loving bubblegums more and more. The last one is pretty. Love the pink.

Very nice. We live in a great area for this stuff! Might not be as fancy as some of the other agates out there, but I love to find em!

Always wanted to look for agates in the grasslands but never really knew where to go or had someone who knows the area well.

When you find stuff that neat, its always possible to find the more spectacular one. Keep on walking. Its a cheap form of gambling and good for your health.

Always wanted to look for agates in the grasslands but never really knew where to go or had someone who knows the area well. Seriously, all you have to do is get out and look in the rock beds Check the pastures, we've even found them in the roads- especially after it rains and there are new ruts There is a ton of area to search, all you have to do is get out We usually find something every time we go Usually.

Some of the agates are just labeled “agate” or “misc. agate” while others are “prairie agate”. What makes an agate a prairie agate? They’re really nice, by the way.
