Hello All... finally got a new camera, and figured I'd post my first finished cabs... these aren't spectacular, but as my first, I am slightly attached to them. Hope you all enjoy them... First is a piece of Tiger Iron that came out quite nice. Next is a piece of Fire Agate with swirls of color. And last is a piece of Larvikite that polished up wonderfully.

They look really nice, though a little hard to see on the dark background. Great job for a first time, I'd be attached to them too. They look like they have a really nice shine, did you do it all on a grinder or in a tumbler?

great pieces, Malkavic, love the tiger iron, nice shape. are you going to mount them? drill them? (hehehe, carry them around in your pocket for a while?)
close ups on a lighter background might show off the color a little...what kind of camera did you get?
nice work! KD

Thanks guys... I've been playing with the background a bit... trying to find the right thing to show them off... still having a bit of trouble there though...::Grins:: um, these were all done on a grinder... since I got it, I've been going crazy with it, and sad to say, neglecting my tumblers... the hands-on approach fascinates me...
As for the camera, it is a Kodak EasyShare CX7330... 3.1MegaPixel with an optical zoom... it was about $190 at Sears.... It's a nice little camera... takes both still images, and has video recording capability... Now I just have to find the best way to take pictures of such shiny rocks...
I'm planning on possibly selling these on Ebay... not sure though... haven't ever actually sold anything there, so it'll be a new experience... If they go up, I'll let you all know...
I'll hopefully have a few more pictures up soon...

Wow...really nice job. I highly recommend the patented "Krazydiamond paper plate" for a background for a lot of things.

Look like wonderful stones, but I agree - the pictures need to be improved.

Hey Sands, Rocky, Shorty, Hermatite, Cookie, and Toad... the unit I use is a Barranca Combo unit... Diamond grinder/6" trim saw.... it's a nice unit... my main issue with it is that I haven't quite perfected the polishing yet, but I am getting much better... Bear helped immensely with that, and I give him total credit for these stones working the way they did...
As for the background material, I am working on finding a suitable background to take the images with... I did some experiments with different lighting after posting these, and I think I found a better option, using the "KrazyDiamond" Paper plate theory... it does seem to help. I'm having the same problems as you though, Sands... the whole glare or no polish look... trying to find a happy medium is damn frustrating...::chuckles:: but it's a good way to practice patience...
I'll post the new images sometime tonight... currently am checking the boards from a friend's house, where I was invited to dinner... I never pass up a free meal from a friend who cooks like an international chef...::Grins::
Anyway, hope you all have a good night...
