Well, I finally took my first batch out Monday night and much to my surprise, they came out pretty good. I learned that I need to be a little more selective of what I put in. I had a lot of pits and fractures in this batch, I guess due to the hammer. ;D I started another batch Sunday before last, let them go for 1 week in 60/90, and then I took my dremel to them and smoothed out some of the rough spots. I hope these will come out better. This is a mix of several stones and even some drive-way gravel. So, did I do good for my first time? Thanks for looking... [glow=Brett,2,300]Brett[/glow]

Yeah you did, great job!! What's that purple stuff? What's that blue stuff? Love the tiger eye, lol at least I know one of them. What's that pretty pastel green on top? LOL Inquiring minds want to know.

wow, i see some nice pieces of dalmation stone and snowflake obsidian, some sodalite up there at the top, too!
my favorites, however, are the two stripey ones above the right most piece of tiger eye.....no clue what they are but i love the "swoop" in the larger one and the zebra stipes on the one in the middle.
the other piece that really stands out is the zig zag in the purple one to the left...also am interested in a close up of the wild patterned stone the furthest sticking out on the left.......
you did good, Brett! got your second batch started yet?

You did well, but I don't know if I've ever seen so many different types of rock combined in one batch -- tiger eye, dalmation jasper, sodalite, chevron amethyst, leopardskin, milky quartz, snowflake obsidian, turitella agate, plus numerous types of stone I don't recognize. You might get a brighter shine if you separated these out into groups of similar hardness stones for at least the polish or pre-polish/polish cycles. Ace results for your first batch though!

Hi all, Thanks for the support on my first batch. The pictures didn't show the shine as well as I thought. For the most part, most of them came out wonderful, but there were some that were a little dullish. Since this was my first batch, I was in a hurry and just threw a bunch of stuff in there. I have learned to be more selective, especially with the hardnesses. Rosebud, the purple stuff, top left, is blue adventurine. It is very dark in color, almost a deep navy blue. Blue stuff - sodalite and the 'pastel green' - green adventurine. KD, the rocks you like are actually drive way gravel. One of them looks like a piece of caramel. The rock with the zebra stripe came from a creek in Arkansas, the white line is a line of quartz. It was originally dark black with a white line, but the grit took the black off. Still pretty though. Cookie, That is chevron amethyst. What are you mounting? The amethyst had a nice dark color to it and that one piece had a great pattern. Don't laugh, but my background is astro turf. I took the pix at work. ;D Sands, Thanks for the compliment from a master!! Looking at your work make me want a saw, grinder, and more tumblers. Maybe I should put it on Ebay? Rocky, The leopardskin was funny. It has shiny spots and dull spots. I guess the stone varies in hardness, or maybe my load was too mixed. BE, Thanks Wanna buy some? ;D Agatehunter, I did have one agate in this batch I will try to get a closeup. The lines run continuously around 3 sides of the stone. Wish I had more... Rollingstone, A+ on you ID skills. ;D The stones you don't recognize are either driveway gravel or some misc. un-named stones I bought at a rock shop in Arkansas. I have separated the stones better in my second batch so hopefully much better results. Thank you all for looking and commenting. I feel better about my progress now. Besides, I have a lot of knowledge and experience from this group to rely on. [glow=blue,2,300]Brett[/glow]

Congrats on the first batch! I know of few things that are as satisfying as seeing those shiney pebbles emerge from a barrel. Good job!
