Hi all. I needed to come up with a quick gift for someone who spends a lot of time at his desk, so I grabbed one of my agate slabs, some plexiglass, and a pen/holder and came up with this. Nothing fancy, but I'm sure he'll enjoy it. Thanks for looking, Ed

what an awesome gift idea! did you bevel the plexiglass yourself? and where did you get the pen parts?

Hi Kim. I used a router on the edge of the plexi-glass and I bought the pen/holder assy. at Micheals Craft Store. It only took about 1hr to polish the agate, rout the edges, and polish them.

stoner..what a great idea. I like how it's modern but with a natural element. The juxtaposition of the glass and the stone makes for a really pleasing effect. good work and an idea I'll probably steal at some point! ;D

Stoner, what a lovely gift! I am sure your friend will be delighted not only because it's a very nice and elegant gift, but also that you made it yourself. Anyone would be proud to have it sitting on their desk.

Don't patend it yet, I'm stealing it right now! I have this cool looking specimen stone I wanted to give my brother in law as a paper wieght for Christmas, but I wasn't sure he's get what it was. I'll glue a pen holder to it and there will be no dought! Thanks for the idea. Your's will be prettier though. Come to think of it, I have a camera now, I can show what it looks like ;D

i'm gonna steal it too stoner . perfect christmas presents and i'm thinking i can go find a piece of granite or marble in the warehouse as a base. now getting a slab of anything (a true slab) might be another story. i'll have to come up with some other method besides holding with my fingers to get a slab. how do you polish a slab? kim

and what kind of glue did you use? and how big a piece of plexiglass? did you put felt or rubber thingys on the bottom? ok that's all the questions for this minute ;D really like this idea.

Hi all Thanks for the comments. And you all better hurry, cuz the patent takes effect in 10min.(hehe) Kim. I polish the slabs using my grinder, wet/dry sandpaper up to 2000g, leather disc on the grinder, and diamond paste on a piece of leather. I gotta get a new disc for my flat lap, otherwise I'd use that. Size of the plexi-glass is 4"x3", I used 5min. epoxy, and I used small cork pads on the corners.
