I am really happy with the way pictures are currently coming out but I came across something interesting today. This is an estate sale find and I have no information about it. It has two gooseneck lamps and a camera mount. The camera mount and light mounts are both adjustable height. I have not messed around with it much but thought I would share pictures of it. Thanks for looking, Chuck

Sure looks fancy. The tiger eye picture turned out good, but then again, your pictures usually turn out good.

Thanks Rob. I was certainly not looking to change up anything but this thing just looked cool so I had to bring it home and try it. Nobody else knew what the heck it was or what it could be used for. I have spent $10 on worse things.

Hard to take a bad picture when your tumbles are some of the best we see. But tools are fun anyway.

Nice find. I stil haven't gone out and bought your old light setup, but that looks like something that will work out real well. Congrats.

I suppose some cameras will be easier than others to get used to operating the camera controls “upside down.”

Searching around a bit, it looks like they're referred to as 'copy stands', and are often used for reproducing old photographs and documents. Pretty neat!

I use a copy stand setup like that with sunrise/sunset lighting for taking photos of artifacts. Add a clear piece of glass and you can make your rocks float ;-)
Nice setup!

Michael While researching this thing I came across a photography table that had glass for the floating image look. I had never seen that before. Do you have an example of a picture taken that way? I have a professional quality copy stand for sale that's essentially brand new. It doesn't come with lights but I find the long-necked $20 Jansjo led desk lamps from IKEA work just fine. If anyone's interested I can shoot a picture of it and list it in the sales portion of the Forum with all details.

Sure, here is a photo of a point: It does take a little Photoshop to remove any dust (and scratches that accumulate on the glass) to get the perfect black. All the best, Michael

That is a great photo. Thanks mjflinty. If you ever get a chance can you take a picture of your setup? Is the glass suspended over a black background? Chuck

...Is the glass suspended over a black background? Chuck Years ago I remember reading a series of posts about photographing Japanese tanto blades. The individual had placed the blades on glass suspended a few inches over a black background. Made the blade look like it was floating in space.

When I sold on etsy, I used the glass pane from a picture frame. Gave illusion of up in the air and a slight reflection. I was frequently asked how I did that! No trick.
