This is a specimen rock I wanted to give my brother-in-law for Christmas, but it seemed kinda plain. Agatehunter's idea as a pen holder appealed to me. What do you think? The quartz runs all the way around the stone Here's another I may do something with. Found these both in the river This is a specimen rock we found on vacation and gave to my step daughter. It's rhodilite in pyrite (I think) Enjoy! cookie

cookie i think it will look great! i even had some not rock related ideas for that pen - like on some driftwood or a cypress knee (is that what it's called). i ordered 5 pens, some memo holders, and got some letter openers that you can put a rock on the end from steebar.com. but that gets all the men for christmas.

Hi Cookie , I like that rock , and to use it as a gift idea...yes great!!
If you have a means of drilling a hole in it to hold a pen or whatever , that would be neat. You could also glue some small polished stones on the top and turn it into a picture . See the fotos I posted on green Bison.
Good luck
Jack
