Woooooow!I could watch that for a long time. Thanks! His videos are about 1.5 minutes. I have at least 3 hours in watching them. He had one explode last year and lost vision in one eye. Now he makes the dichroic part and has them faceted for jewelry.

That fellow is an amazing glass artist. Cold formed. Glued up. Sliced. Polished. Restacked. Sliced polished, restacked..... It's just lead crystal and dichroic glass and HxTal glue

That fellow is an amazing glass artist. Cold formed. Glued up. Sliced. Polished. Restacked. Sliced polished, restacked..... It's just lead crystal and dichroic glass and HxTal glue He is a serious machine head, his machine shop is salvaged and used stuff. Lot of it HD metal working machinery converted for glass sawing/grinding/polishing. The beauty of working glass is that is soft and cuts/polishes fast. And it can be glued together about as strong as it can me fused together with zero bubbles at the bond. This fellow took these principles to the extremes. I thought he used super glue but it is HxTal, an epoxy ? Bet he would cringe at the thought of using my glass that is full of bubbles lol. Only the finest lead crystal highly refined in his shop. Plus he doesn't have to worry about well annealed glass or incompatible fusions which would set him free to do what he does. I love the melt factor, the color mixing, and glass has one of the best abilities of any material to carry color. But he gets to play with the optical qualities and colors and refractions on a much more sophisticated level. I know of no one else like him.

jamespHxTal is an epoxy. Yes. It's a very interesting material to me. One week cure, to 90% of full strength. Not even finished at a week. Has the highest non-yellowing rating amongst epoxies. Very low catalyst rate, makes a slow cure and water white product. Bubbles removed in avacuum chamber. I have a 5 gallon vac chamber. Your observation that he uses metal working gear makes sense. He makes the most perfect cubes and sphere preforms I have ever seen. That's a combination of gear and skill no doubt.

Those machines are super precision as you well know. A Bridgeport mill, dead accurate for example. Usually the slower the epoxy takes to dry the stronger it is. The fast dry agents weaken it. Seems like I heard 1 hour epoxy is order of magnitude stronger than 5 minute.
