Precipitated pure silica free clay here. Sand free and coup de gras slurry maker. So pure it would shrink and crack for pottery applications. Clay dug from ground has a higher say 25 to 40% sand content but it does a good job too. Actually hard to tell the difference in pure clay and sandy clay. This would have a high kaolin(eroded felspar) content. This much Old Miser sold at Covington Engineering would have broken the bank account. Unintentional find at an aborted construction site found whilst hunting arrowheads on way home from dinner. A policeman was parked there eating lunch on his break and joined me lol. We found quartz chips and a broken quartz arrowhead. He was tripped out that they could be found so readily. ![](https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1967/44433936774_53e1daa9ee_z.jpg) ![](https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1939/44433936024_a209785041_c.jpg) ![](https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1922/44433935424_28474a0066_c.jpg)

Love your experience. Love that you are sharing that law enforcement does not often question someone and tell them to move on, but also joins in the hunt and is amazed when an experienced person is there. My Son in Law is Law and Military. Also substitute Humane Officer. He appreciates those with knowledge and is a welcome accomplice (with the Counties approval). I understand the merits of pure clay. Mine has some round silca sand above and below. In the middle is pure pottery quality clay. Mostly red and yellow layers. Planning on harvesting some pure clay from neighbors property yet this year. It is much better for tumbling than clay kitty litter. Our monsoon fall has caused a lot of pure clay on her property to become exposed. This is the gray or brown type, but I checked and could get a few 5 gallon pails of it. prefer the red and yellow variety, but one must reap what is givith.

Looks like easy collecting. Wish I had access to such a supply. Time for another kitty litter run.

Seems to be a lot more clay available to us than may realize. Down in Florida you sure had to work to find it. The policeman seemed happy to have an invite. He is probably not used to that situation. He seemed a bit surprised. Gotta respect the work they do. Never had security when hunting arrowheads lol

Camping, whitewater rafting, fixing up a dirt bike for the boys, home projects, just trying to do it all. Still tumbling, but haven't been photographing batches for a while. The laptop I used to process, store and upload photos died. I lost some pics I had taken of my nicer, or unique, tumbles over the last few months, but most everything from the past is on Flickr. I'll probably put a new laptop on my Christmas list, but I'm not sure which side of that naughty/nice list I fall on.

Gotta be funner than tumbling. Been thinking about upgrading lap top. Only problem is Mac's cost so much. Can't be loosing those fine tumble photos, that's a shame.

Kitty Litter was invented By Ed Lowe Cassopoliss Michigan next town 15 miles N/E of me here in Niles Mi. Although Ed is now dead, I have to support his estate being he was a local guy and all.
