I posted about this here forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/post/1016817/thread but I thought I would start this thread to possibly get more help. Please see the link and read down from there. I REALLY want to like this new wheel, but I just don't think it will work.

Is it sintered? Looks like silicon carbide unless they are using a different matrix material. Generally sintered wheels have a bronze colored matrix and use several soft metals with the diamonds embedded throughout. If different width core you may need to modify spacers.

No, it isn't sintered. They are sending me a new one because the one I got is too off balance.

Your thread link above takes me to the thread about them being killer cabbing wheels. Did you mean to link to your thread about the issues?
Items that are out of balance are usually cured by adding weight to the opposite side to counter balance. I guess it depends on if it is out of balance because it is not a perfect circle, Center hole is off center, or there is too much weight on one side.

After I took the wheel off, I rolled it on a flat surface and it wobbled. Should have done that first. Dh took a look at it with his QA eye and said that the inside hole seemed off by the wear on the paint, too.

Doe's DH have access to a dial indicator? With the wheel mounted on the genie a dial indicator will tell you exactly how out of round the wheel is as you turn the wheel by hand. You would place the base flat on the table and move it until the tip just touches the wheel at the lowest point. Then as you spin the wheel by hand the dial tells how far out of whack it is. They are also very handy for aligning the vise to a slab saw blade. The dial and tip can be swiveled into any position Chuck

Hmm, let’s see . . . howzat work? . . . we’re gonna set the tip of a dial indicator on the face of an 80-grit diamond wheel and spin the wheel by hand . . . and find out what? . . . how much we wore off the tip?
(Don’t know how useful a reading you’d get on the inside of the rim.)

I did not say it would fix anything. Thanks for taking time to type out that helpful reply as usual. Chuck

There are several kinds of tapes that would work for this.

Yeah, that’s a handy option, Garry. You could also lift the plunger and just let it down on a series of spots around the wheel.
The point could be hardened steel, hard chromium, tungsten carbide or diamond, but I still wouldn’t drag it across an 80-grit wheel.

Or buy quality wheels to begin with. I'm sure you can buy shoes for a few dollars still too. With tools you need to look at value, not price. Low priced tools that don't work have little value.

The price was too good to pass up and it got great reviews. They are sending another and I have high hopes for it. Baltic Abrasives appears to be a good company. I can understand a dud one time. I got a dud from fro DP once, too.
