Introduction to Metalsmithing

An excellent silver smith can crank quality items out in no time.
When I lived in AZ, there was a silver smith who stationed himself among those selling pre made jewelry at the overlooks at Canyon de Chey. I used to chat with him and watch him work with the metals and stones.
He did custom items on the spot. Similar set up as in one of the above links, but he ran the operation out of the back of his truck. Had altered his tailgate to be fire proof, so used the bottom of a grill for heating some items on that. Wish I would have taken some photos of him in action.
