So I took these out of pre-polish back in May.. of 2007 Yeah that's when I fell headlong into cabbing and never looked back. Back then I had a Thumbler Model B and a Workforce tile saw. A few weeks ago I found a long lost container in my garage and remembered that I picked up a used Raytech vibe a few years back and decided it was time to try and finish them. These went about 22 hours in a dedicated polish bowl. I rinsed them well, put them in the bowl and added 2 tablespoons of Cerium Oxide. I had a very good 'folding action' going on, and was careful not to add too much water. 12 hours later I added a couple squirts from a water bottle. Several hours later I added a few drops of dish soap and a couple more water bottle squirts and ran for 15 minutes then cleaned up the lot. Here's my7 results The vibe was a little more aggressive than what I imagined. I understood that it was a 4 lb bowl, I weighed what I added and it was just a couple ounces over 4 lb. I never thought that I should have done less and added some ceramics? Anyway some groups This was the very first self collected stuff I found.. quartz with fuchsite from Maricopa More self collected, mostly from Brenda Quartz crystals I collected with Jamie desertdweller way back when Dalmatian.. this took a matt finish at best Some picture jasper pendants I remember cutting with my Work Force, and some stuff from snowdog Some Blues Amy I believe from Rock Shed Crazy stuff I think was also RS Misc. that took a good shine So again it seemed the vibe was pretty aggressive or I just didn't cushion it well. I did have a bunch of smalls. Many broke and I had these at the bottom Anyway, there you have it from and old time newbie

That dalmation is wild, even though it didn't take a great shine. I like all the agates with patterns, especially the crazy lace and that one blue in the middle of your "blues" pic that has a tan spot on the front of it.

Glad to see you posting in the tumbling section. With your top not materials you will have some killer batches.
Even though those were already done to pre-polish in the rotary I would have started back at 120/220 in your vibe and worked my way up to polish. It is not too late to do that and I think you would be pleased with the results. It would only take 7-8 days to try it.
120/220 for 48 hours 500 for 72 hours and then skip 1000 or 500 for 48 hours followed by 48 hours in 1000 (pre-polish) A/O polish (14,000) for 48 hours Burnish 1-2 hours
I always have ceramics in every batch. Usually about 15-20 percent of the load unless delicate material or cabs then a much higher percentage. In my experience rock weight is far less important then proper bowl fill. I have never weighed the rocks going into my lot-o. Proper fill level is what provides the proper action.
Your broken rocks worry me. Those sharp edges could cause havoc in polish stage too. Polish stage usually does not require much additional water during the run but be careful the first time you run 120/220 or straight 220. That requires a little more baby sitting to keep proper movement.

11 years in the making. Wow, that's a long time for one batch, must be some kind of record. I know it's been said, but you certainly have all the best material, you should be turning out some fantastic batches. I know you are a cabber, but tumbling is so passive, it would be easy to have a barrel rolling too. Anyway, glad you got back to these, hope to see more. Especially like the crazy lace, always a crowd favorite.
That Brenda material is some good looking stuff, your self collected material always makes me drool.

Hmmm...somehow my browser misses some of these threads. Don't know why. In any event, nice work. I love tumbling the stuff you send me. I like seeing your own work.

What a great post! Love the dalmations, any desire to rerun them?
11 years, huh? You know, this reminds me...I think I have a few beach agates in a box somewhere that I found in...1973? 74? I should try to find those...

Thank you kindly everyone! I said I used two tablespoons of CO, I meant 2 teaspoons. I'm really wishing I would have cushioned this with some media, but I'll be wiser next time. Drummond Island Rocks thanks for the info and recipe! Yea I think those broken smallies may have hindered me a bit. Some of these I'm happy with and some I may rerun, hopefully within the next decade.
