Happy Halloween sez my driveway rocks another shot of the driveway rock Pet wood on outside and golden wood in the center Flint from my front yard My favorite pieces of flint out of this batch And, now for the rest of the batch! These went through several weeks in 60/90, a week in 220, and a week in 500. They were then moved to the Vibe for 2 days in 1000, then on to 2 days in Cerium Oxide. This is the first time I have used CO and needless to say, I am really happy with the shine. The pictures don't do the shine justice! llana

Driveway rock? Get outta here?
In your fist pic, the second two on the right, kind of orangy color ... any idea? It's gorgeous!! And the mauve/lavendar?
The pet wood is wonderful, where do you get the golden stuff? That's really different.
And last but not least, you got red flint? Is that from your yard too? WoW I wanna come rock hunting in your driveway ok? ;D
Llana, that is just an incredible batch of stones, terrific shine, they are beautiful!!

Where'd my post go? lost in cyberspace. You know I'm a sucker for flint and pet wood, and yours are incedible. Texas Flint (Really) Rocks! I also love the long, thin, orangey ones. And on the last pic, bottom left, clear (or gray) and red. What is that? I'd love to have some more flint from TX, but I guess my stuff isn't a great trade Maybe I can come up with something else. WTG! cookie

Llana, I was talking to Paul Able's son Jeremy and he was saying that he sells alot of flint on Ebay and it sells like hotcakes. And I think he is selling just rough. If you have alot of that stuff just lying around you might try just putting some out there and see what happens.

Maybe I can type this AM- LOL! I gotta quit trying to send emails or post messages when I get a bit tipsy! I had no idea the driveway rock would turn out so nice. Have no idea what any of those are - the top three kinda big ones are quartzy, but the others, beats me. This is the first time any of the driveway rock I have used for fill was worth moving into the pre-polish and polish stage. Most of them just stay in the 60/90 barrel til they grind away. Cher, the pet. and golden wood I collected on the Falls City trip this summer. I still have a 5 gal bucket about 1/4 full with it. Kim. that pet wood was in 60/90 for a LONG time before it got that smooth. Each week I almost moved it on, but it just wasn't quite where I wanted it, so back into 60/90. I am really glad I didn't rush them along now. When I first started tumbling the flint I had so idea it would be so nice. I have been tossing some in with almost every load for filler. It's really hard and has to stay in 60/90 for as long or longer than the pet. wood. My other batches I moved along too fast. They were nice, but these are the best ones yet! We have a pretty wide range of colors in the flint -black,dark brown, light brown, light and dark gray, banded, and some with reds in it. The red is hard to find and most of the time the reds that catch my eye are really red limestone and go POOF when tumbled. I was really tickled that this was actually flint! Cookie, you know if you want some more flint all you gotta do is ask! It's not like there is a shortage of it down here or anything! And you know I love that Georgia Red Clay quartz! So, let's trade! The red/clear/gray at the bottom is a rock I got from Astrogallery when I first started. I ordered 30 lbs. and got some really nice stuff. Have no idea what most of it is. I always thought about taking pics of it rough and sending them am email with pics to find out what it was, but never did So, I just cut 'em,then toss them in the tumbler and hope for the best! I still have a number of big rocks from that batch that I haven't cut yet. Ed, flint for Brazilian agate! Does a wild bear poop in the woods! Yes, Yes, Yes!! I would love some If anybody wants any flint, just let me know. There is tons of it down here. I think it mates and has babies! I have to pick it up and get it out of the yard everytime I mow, then the next time I mow, there's three pieces where there was just one! We got it in all sizes from way bigger than fist size to small chips in a variety of colors. On some pieces you can see the banding, but alot of it just looks brow, gray or whatever, then when tumbled the bands start to come out. I have a number of pieces that have circular bands that look like eyeballs, but didn't really keep them in 60/90 long enough. Need to either put them back in or take them to the grinder. So, if ya'll want flint, just let me know. llana

I sure wish I had stuff like that on my driveway, but I'm betting the concrete wouldn't take a very nice polish. Two questions. What is golden wood? Is that some kind of massive petrified wood, or something else entirely? And how do you identify flint? I don't know anything about flint (except that you use it in lighters and to make stone tools , so how do you differentiate it from something like jasper? Or chert? Or is this something that you just learn to recognize without really thinking about it like, for example, quartz?

Aquababie, we have tons of flint around here - that's the only thing we have! How much do you want? Do you want big pieces you can cut or smaller pieces you can just toss in the tumbler? Rollingstone, I'm not sure if golden wood is some sort of petrified wood or not. All I know is it's really pretty tumbled! I did some golden wood in the same batch as some jasper and it was difficult to tell which was which but there's no problem identifying it out in the field because we don't have jasper around here. The golden wood in the batch was what I collected on the Falls City trip. As far as the flint goes, it is something I think most people would just recognize without thinking about it once they had seen some. I also understand that flint and chert are basically the same thing - might be wrong about that though. llana
