I'm not sure about using resin it may work give it a try. I know that they make diamond impregnated brazing rod for that.

I have only used brazed diamond metal cups. I made my own brazing rod. Quite simple really.
Resin cups will only work well at finer grit sizes.
Edit: BTW your balls are real nice. 😎

Would you mind sharing how you made your own brazing rod? Sure. Bought 3mm brass tubing. Pinched one end. Filled it with diamonds. Pinched the other end. Braze away, use liberal flux. ETA For larger grit, my next experiment would be to add powdered brass in the space between grit particles. I used a new unused super glue type bottle to fill the tube. The bottle easy to fill. The tip makes a great funnel.

If I were to make resin cups and had a 3d printer, I would print the shape of the resin segment I desired, make a silicon mold of that, mix diamond and resin in the mold space, glue cured segment(s) to the cups.
ETA
And I would use HXTAL because slow cure means harder end product.

Helluva sphere, and interesting idea. The soft cabbing wheels are nothing but some sort of very durable rubber or resin, so I think it's do-able, though not for the coarse grind, I don't think. However, I think you'd have to custom-design your cups, can't just slather resin on a piece of tubing. Having said that, with a finished sphere you have a perfect form to use. I use a variety of Weldbond 2 part epoxy, white, for marine use, that is very thick, so it wouldn't run right off, leaving you with high and low spots. Diamond dust for a buck a carat mixed in. Really, the only trick would be making the mold, have to think on that for a bit. Could surely turn hard maple dowels with a perfect concave end, for starters...? Good luck, thanks for sharing, and please keep us informed of your progress!

I ordered a 3d printer kit (prusa i3 mk3 for those interested), so I'll have some mold-making options once I get it assembled. I'm also planning to print some pieces to go in my saw to hold a jig at set intervals so I don't have to measure. I'll make a new post once I get somewhere with all of that.

And while I'm here posting, I got my brother to try to weld some brazing rod onto a plumbing fitting for the first time. Only brought one with me the first time, but it was generally a success. I can't decide if welding diamond segments or the brazing rod would be easier.
We may try both.
