MsAli Looks like either your excellent transformation scared others off or Thanksgiving and home stuff has prevented more from entering. I have a few, that would qualify, if I can find the before photos. I might enter, just for fun, as they are no where near as nice as yours. After all, we cannot have only one entry, right?

Please enter! I've been waiting for some competition as having only 1 entry would suck Plus I thought it was a great theme

Well, in a futile attempt to unseat the reigning champ, I will sacrifice myself in front of the forum and everybody with my first FCC entry. This stone was passed down from my gandpa to my father to me... I guess that will qualify it in the gift to me category. Trent Agate, 50x19x7 mm

Due to severe back pain it's been several months since I've been able to work at the wheels. Today is the first day I've felt able to get back into the grind. I remembered this stone as a fine gift from a good friend in Nova Scotia. He found several narrow veinlets on one of the islands near the Bay of Fundy and was able to dig a few pieces from the hard matrix. I’m not sure of all the minerals present in the piece. I can identify native copper, cuprite, chrysocolla and possibly a bit of turquoise. I’m not sure what the white material is but it’s soft and cuts like opal. It worked into an attractive and unusual little pendant piece with an unique "back story." I’ll make a setting for it one of these days. Rough Preform Polished

fernwood, thanks for your comment. As I mentioned, it's pendant-sized, about an inch and a half long. Good stuff comes in small packages although I wish larger pieces were available. Yes, it has a fairly high dome. I needed to cut it that way to make it more durable.

I like the high dome and feel it is perfect for this cab.

It's ageing on my workbench like a good cut of beef - or a fine wine. All in good time. Actually I got so into the thinning out my rocks that I haven't even turned on the grinders in a couple of weeks. It's raining today so I'll probably rectify that situation today and get some work done. I've never aged beef on my workbench....

Alright I got one done today! This is I believe a laguna agate gifted to me from beefjello . Brian sent me more goodies after sending him the knife so I thought it was appropriate to use a piece for thiis competition. here's the 1 cab wonder slab he sent: Here's the finished cab: Best of luck to y'all!

Wow! The rough cut is even uglier than the outside. What a transformation! The cab is stunning. I'm not so sure that I would have gone for it. Those pits and fissures look pretty discouraging. Nice work. Your patience really paid off. The finished cab has some flaws, but I didn't even consider not doing it, as it was just too amazing not to try
This item looks like the quartz I find in the creek outside of my office window. Usually just tumble but now think it's time to cab. I have so much of it. Guess I'll have to start uploading photos too.
What a stunner!

Thank you! I want to visit your creek. You definitely need to show us your finds

Sliding in under the wire... Little change from the original plan - this is a piece of Trinidad jasper from Northern California. The story goes that the material was found during a freeway project and there was just a very short time where a handful of people were allowed to take material out before the road crew covered it over. One of the persons who was involved in that gave a chunk to my friend and my friend gave me a slab of it. Do you see it yet?
