A WONDERMENT - it is curious which elements like each other. For instance,
It seems as if as the Ocean plate dived under
1. California the volcanoes erupted
Gold!
2. when it reached Nevada they erupted

3. by the time it reached Montana, Utah, and Arizona they were down to Copper.
As magmas age heavy minerals crystallize and drop out, making the lavas being produced lighter.
Red is the southern volcanoes in the great basin areas - Nevada and Utah.
There seems to be less iron with more silica -
and yet north of the "Iron Axis" the laccoliths contain a lot of iron, South they are more granite.

My Geology Professor, Lehi Hintze, produced rock columns all over the area, allowing insight to what happened in the past. Here is the column for the area around Cove Mt.
just west of the mountain the elevation of the valley floor is 5380 feet. The present top of the eroded laccolith is 7325 feet, so the injected material is about 2,000 feet in thickness.
