That looks good to me, hopefully should be pretty waterproof and dirtproof too being for a lawnmower.

i have also been looking at different spindles. the one in your picture looks like a Stens. they come with different bearing types: roller, tapered and ball bearings. find out which bearing set is in it and look up the max rpm rating. there is also the possibility that since these spindles are designed for tension (force is pulling) there might be a issue putting them in a compression situation (force is pushing) but most like with the weight involved it wont be a problem

the other avenue i have considered is to take a 4 bolt flange sealmaster bearing ...maybe 2 of them and mount them at the point horizontally where the shaft exits the flat lap. one on top and one directly under. this should make for a smooth ride.
