Did the necklace awhile ago and just got around to doing pictures. Finished the aquamarine today. It a has full face chatoyant effect, much like a moonstone. In person, it is incredible. It came from my stash. Thanks for looking!

Whoa! Both those are wonderful.
I used not to much like aquamarine - low light return and similar color to irradiated topaz. But I was only looking at the nearly featureless blue-to-blue-green stones one is used to seeing in the jewelry market. Later, I discovered that this gem can have a host of quite interesting, and relatively ignored varieties - everything from chatoyance, to schiller effects, to streaks of colorful hematite and other mineral inclusions, to silky glow, and more.

Wow - you're on a roll! The tigereye beads really compliments the paiute well. I've not seen aquamarine like that before - I like it. Both wraps are beautiful.

I hear ya! I loved the old unheated aquas that were actually more green than blue- good luck finding any of them anymore! I have not seen another one with the schiller or chatoyance since I bought this one. I didn't know at the time or I would of gotten more.

Beautiful wraps. I'm partial to the Aqua but the scene in the first one is pretty cool.

[quote author="rockjunquie " I loved the old unheated aquas that were actually more green than blue- good luck finding any of them anymoreone. [/quote][/p] Actually here's been a fashion trend back to unheated greenish aquas. I have an unheated beauty for sale if anyone's looking. Not all unheated aqua is green; some is heated naturally resulting in blue gems.
When I first started in the gem trade back in the late 70s fine blue aqua was King -- and very expensive. I was at the Tucson show the year (can't recall which, early 80s) that irradiated blue topaz was first introduced and almost overnight aqua was toppled from its pedestal because the topaz was abundant, cheap and available in several shades of blue. Fine aquas, heated and unheated, still command high prices because many people want the real thing and not much new material is being mined.
I remember cutting my first aqua cat's-eye back in the 1960s. Still have it. It's not the greatest eye stone but I keep it around for its sentimental value.

Both are stunning! I'm with Pat, the sagebrush on the foothills has me drifting along in the tumbling tumbleweeds

Love that aquamarine. Very elegant. A beautiful pendant to be worn on a special occasion.

Beautiful pendants, Tela! I have to say I'm partial to the Paiute. Love the scene in it. It's very calming.

Thanks everyone! This is a fairly old post. I have done maybe 6 pieces since then and haven't gotten around to taking pictures. I really should get on the ball, but I have the winter blahs and don't have the energy or desire. But, it was nice to see this come up again and read your comments.
