Below are before and after photos. Top shows after a 5 minute water wash coming out of 500 SIC. Second is after a 24 hr. tumble in Borax. Wanted to preserve some of the crystal pockets, crevices and natural features of the rocks/fossils. Even after the water wash there was still a lot of pre-polish stuck on. After the run in Borax, almost all of the pre-polish was gone. These were photographed wet, so a little of the Boax solution is remaining on the rocks. They are now rolling away in 1200 pre-polish.

When you water wash, is that a rinse or do you use the tumbler? I like to run my "clean" rocks for a while in fresh water in the tumbler for a while to ensure they are really clean. It seems to work for me.

It looks like the Borax makes a big difference. I've been using the ivory soap flakes, I wonder if Borax is better? Thanks for the example.

For water wash I just let it run under high pressure faucet. Turn the colander and move around the rocks.

Hi greig ; After the 24 soap tumble, i rinse in water and let dry. I just rubbed a few of the stones on cotton, they went from dull, to a dull shine. Nothing like the shine you see at the rock stores.

Hi miket;
I've been using Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda. Its been doing a good job of cleaning the gem stones and the inside of the barrel.
