Looking at starting Rockhounding come spring.
This is what I've discovered so far. I was looking at 100km of beach and 50 - 60 water falls.
Google is all about the wording. These are going to be my 1st areas I check out.
Jasper locations – Halls Harbour, Long Beach, Woodworth Cove(Cross Creek)
Agate locations - Halls Harbour, Woodworth Cove(Cross Creek), Cape Split
Quartz locations – Morden, Cape Blomidon, Canada Creek, Harbourville, Arlington Quarry, Scotts Bay, Amethyst Cove, Woodworth Cove, Ross Creek, Long Beach
There are 41 varieties of Agate , 12 Quartz and thousands of Jasper.

Not entirely familiar with your area, however aren't the tides something to be aware of with any beach activity? Look forward to seeing any of your finds.

Yes there are HankRocks and you need to consult the tide tables when you walk some of the beaches, so you don't get stuck out in the middle of nowhere for 12 - 16 hours.

I was a neophyte rock hound when in Nova Scotia but indeed the beaches and points are fascinating nature experiences and visual if not lapidary gold mines. None of your agates in this photo that I can tell, but it is one of my fav screen saver photos depicting two of the highlights of Nova Scotia (rocks and fish). The waves were so violent at Meat Cove in the northern tip of Cape Breton that the fish were hurled onto the beach by the hundreds. Keep us posted of your successes and yes take photos.

Peruano, from what I can see, it looks like there is some jasper in the photo.

Probably so. I know that the granites were colorful enough that I tumbled many specimens and came out with reasonable results even knowing that granite is hard to tumble successfully.

stretch316 welcome to the board! That area you are from has always fascinated me and is definitely a bucket list destination. As a side note, we have another long time member 150FromFundy who had many posts with beautiful pictures and stories of the area until the unfortunate PhotoBucket implosion wiped out all the photos
