All looking great so far. I'm almost afraid to enter this month but maybe I'll find something or other that says "Christmas!" what's there to lose by trying, not trying is to lose all. Says in voice of yoda I believe Yoda actually said, "Do or do not. There is no try." We may have to revoke your need card. 😁

To me nothing says Christmas in Wisconsin like snowflakes scattered throughout the night sky on Christmas Eve. With the smallest amount of light they sparkle like the stars much higher in the sky. Here is a Snowflake Obsidian cab I finished today. Received the preform from manofglass. I shaped the edges of the preform with the Dremel and some diamond files. It then went into various grit stages in rotary. Final polishing by hand with AO polish and leather. Plan on making a groove wrap from it, hence the style of cab. I was unable to capture the sparkle in the snowflakes. Just figured this was a good place to share my snowflakes on Christmas Eve. The cabs others have already submitted are amazing. Preform: Size reference: Cab:

Throwing my hat into the fray...
My entry for the December 2018 Special Christmas Edition of the RTH FCC: A sparkly piece of druzy.
The rough, as found
Finished pendant
I call it "a snowball fight fixin' to happen", lol.
This piece of druzy was self collected in Quartzsite in 2015, self pre-formed, shaped and finished as a pendant.
Bob and I were with Mark K , north of town out Plomosa Rd. They were using pry bars, getting banded barite rocks with amethyst, I was wandering around picking up chunks of loose druzy. Much less work. Then they started picking up druzy for me.
Hope you like it!
Jean.

Well I am now delayed. My shed got broken into which is harder to get into than a house deadbolt.. my $600 bike was stolen.. 2nd time the person was here, once to skope it out. He will probably be back also... hoping not the house next time... I put a new door on... 2 dead bolts this time reinforced the areas the dead bolts are... I plan to get galvanised sheet metal to portent the door so hopefully it can't get broken into again.

I'm sorry to hear that, too. Maybe some cameras might be in order also, they're fairly inexpensive these days...

Here is my entry... Woodward Ranch plume agate I got from Jeremy Able riverbendlapidary I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into with this material but I'm a sucker for a challenge and with this lot there are more challenges to come no doubt. I had intended to dome this one but due to potential breakage I decided to make a drilled buff top polished on all sides. For the contest rules I will fall on the "bell shaped" druzy clause even though the vugs in this piece are not sparkly. Merry Christmas everyone! have a cookie that I made. These might not look fancy on the decoration but they taste fantastic! Orange (zest) vanilla sugar cookies - soft and moist they melt in your mouth.

Tommy Nice cab. Thanks for the cookie. Why do the other slices in your photo remind me of funnel cake?

Lots of creative thinking this month, a great competition. I finally remembered something I'd tucked away to cut "someday," and decided it might be just right for this competition. I plain forgot to photograph the rough so the first image is my slightly lumpy free-formed "Christmas tree." It's cut from a fairly rare type of drusy green garnet from Siberia, Russia. It's named Uvarovite garnet honoring a Russian count, and forms on black chromite as tiny crystals. It's the chromium garnet, as the occurrence with chromite would suggest. The crystals are almost always too small to yield faceted gems but the few small cut stones I've seen are stunners. Lumpy Preform Finished With Polished Edges and Back Side View with Chromite HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!
