Billy those Jerusalem Crickets are the most vile thing ever! When I bought my house the yard had easily 1000 of them. I got chickens and haven't seen one now since 20 years. Thank whomever you worship. AGREE! One was crawling up our window years ago. New to me. Neighbor came over. She said I was white. What’s wrong? I showed her. She put it in a coffee can. Awful!! 1000 would be s nightmare.
Not too many types of critters faze me, but that is one! I have such a visceral dislike for them (they look so alien!), they just totally creep me out, make my skin crawl.

No question that they trigger a repulsive reaction when digging or turning a compost pile. I think they look like slimy, decaying flesh. Can stink, too, but do no harm.
