This is chuck of what I believe is Jasper from Hampton Butte which I found this past fall. It took a real nice finish.

If you make a trip, make it long enough to also hit at least Richardson Ranch for thundereggs. Spring time after the road dry out and before it gets too hot. Probably covered in snow now. Prineville is about 28 degrees right now.
And glass buttes is really pretty close also! Probably could every place in a month!!

I'm thinking May when its warming up a tad and before it gets too hot May still can be on the frosty side. Mid-to-late June is more reliably warm (not hot) and less likely to encounter muddy roads. Toward the end of June there are also the rock Pow Wows at Prineville and Madras, too (always a few RTH shirts prowling the booths) along with Pow Wow sponsored digs to areas normally off-limits. Seldom gets truly hot (and then only in the afternoons) until late July. Cool desert nights and mornings.

I forgot about the Prineville and Madras shows, be a good time to hit everything. You do not want to be there if the roads are muddy.

Nice color in that piece. Most of the jasper I've seen from there is solid green.
