Yeah, I'm still not happy with the quality of the pics but those Fairburns get some crazy patterns. It's kind of hard to get macro shots because most of them aren't smooth and focusing with the varying depths is difficult. But I'm still learning.

It looks to me like you are trying to get too close. You might try backing off a bit then crop to show the detail. Might try using the flash also. I tried to upload a couple of shots but it failed for some reason. What f stop are you using?

I don't remember what f stop I used, I'll have to pay more attention. I'm trying to spread my time between tumbling, cutting and learning to take good pics Oh, and work somewhere in between

I just wanted to show what your 18-55 lens will do. there is a bit of a learning curve, but that is part of the fun. I would like to see your rocks photographed like this piece of carnelian.
