I would say that it is not petrifed wood, some sort of agate would be my guess, it should polish up real good.

I'd say it's not Petrified Wood or Agate. Looks like Quartz or Quartzite to me.

Braat, I would like you to cut both the end and also length wise through your sample. Skim the flatter side and leave top side with the ridge like folds alone. These cuts should show any growth rings.

These cuts should show any growth rings. When enough responses tell me it's probably not pet wood I'll do the end cuts for sure but I'm not sure my 7" tile saw can handle a lengthwise cut but I'll give it a go. So far no one here or in a Facebook pet wood page thinks it's wood... I'll post the cut photos here if and when...

It looks like some of the agates that I find around here...

There might be something cool inside.

I'd also say it's not petrified wood. Appears to be glacial till/quartz.

There might be something cool inside. OK nobody here or on FB thinks it's pet wood so I'm going to cut it...RTHers will be the first to see what's inside (after me)...meanwhile I'll try to keep my expectations down but at the same time hoping there's some fracture free quartz in there...that would be a good enough bonus for me...

It has a splintery/flaky fracture surface. Anything with quartz or other silica based rock would have a conchoidial fracture. Bob

Only one cut needed to satisfy my curiosity....looks like there might be some tumble worthy quartz in there...
