There is a huge place that sells wood I think off I40 in central Arizona. Does anyone remember the name? I was there many years ago but forgot the name and location.

Both are good sources (near or in Holbrook, AZ). Don't be intimidated by Grey's showroom. Grab a basket and go out to the $3/lb pile outside the building. I love scrounging through that stuff, but think about how it will saw up when you select.

Thanks for mentioning that, Robin. You saved me some time in looking it up. My wife and I went there this past spring and spent the afternoon digging. Two five-gallon buckets later (about 130 pounds or so), we were pretty happy. OP, I know you asked about the store specifically, but this is a great place to go...you can pick from items they have already unearthed, or you can dig up your own. We chose to surface pick and to dig, so have the appropriate tools. It wasn't hard digging, as where we were working was a pit of ash. If you do this, plan on getting very dirty. The ash is almost like talc and gets everywhere. Might even want dust respirators just in case. We didn't plan on it, but since we were on an extended trip, we had a change of clothes we could get into. It made the truck interior easier to keep clean after the fact. I can't confirm, as I've not been in the store, but it's been said that Dobell's pricing is much lower on wood.

Wasn't sure whether they wanted to just buy or dig, but at least they can make the choice between the two. We dug Dobell's about a year and a half ago with our club. Of course, we had the windiest day ever and got sandblasted, but we found some spots behind some rocks out of the wind and dug away. It was a lot of fun and if they've just dug a new area to dig in, you can find some really nice pieces.
