These have been running for 10 weeks in SIC 60. 3 lb rotary barrel. Used 3 TBS grit, 4 TBS used slurry and topped off with water to just below rocks. During clean out today, I noticed there had been little change. The grit had not broken down at all. The slurry looked a little thick. 1st set of photos is what I put in. 2nd and 3rd what I took out today. They are now running in Borax. These were all self collected on my land. Any thoughts?

Might have overfilled it a little?

Dunno. Was 3/4 full as usual.

One thing you might want to check is your rotation speed.
I noticed when my belt was too loose the barrel rotated slower, I wasn't getting good results and the grit wasn't breaking down.
Once I replaced my belt things are turning nicely in there

Ali might be right. I had to tighten the belt on my 33b and now it runs like a champ.

These stones to me look like many are too large for a 3lb. tumbler. Are you using ceramic media and are the stones similar in hardness?

fernwoodSiC 60/90 is probably the coarsest grit I would run in a 3 lb. rotary. If you are using graded 60 grit, I would expect the grind to be less effective. Still... after 10 weeks you should be seeing more of a grind. Your filling the tumbler to 3/4 full seems adequate, and the addition grit and slurry sounds good. I think I would agree with what MsAli suggested... check the belt tension and tighten/replace it.

The problem is the rocks. You see, those came from a mine the Chinese took over. It was run by a real screw up named Sum Ting Wong. Happens every time.

Looking at the rocks there is a possibility the rocks jammed up and didn't tumble correctly because they mostly moved as one mass.

Thanks everyone. Will check belt tension or RPM's. The largest rock in the load is about 1 3/4". The barrel "sounded" like everything was moving fine. The mix is jaspers, agates, quartz, fossils and granite. Most of the granite is shaping up nicely.
Will look at everything closer on New Years as that is the next day I am not working. '
