I've never done any bonsai, but I do like trees, so let me take a stab at ID:
First photo is ginko, that was easy.
Second photo... looks like walnut or butternut to me? Could be some kind of ash, but the leaves look too long?
Third pic... around here the leaf shape would scream "weeping birch" to me. But your tree obviously isn't weeping.... I'm still thinking some kind of birch though?
Fourth pic...back to the walnut/butternut/ash/whatever.
Fifth pic... I don't have much clue here... looks like some kind of fruit tree, and the bark plus young branch say cherry to me. Leaves don't fit though. Okay, I'm stumped.
Last two are obviously tea roses, no idea of the variety though.
Well, I probably didn't even get a passing grade. Score me gently though -- I'm in zone 3, and you must be zone 10 or some similar zone far out of my experience. Nice dwarf tree pics at any rate.

What a great backyard! I am green with envy! The roses are beautiful! I bet it's really pretty when everything is in bloom! Waiting to see the spring and summertime pics!

Hi Ed , thanks for your interesting yard pics, Yes I identified them as they are described by Rollingstone, the ash is almost out of leaf haha.
And Michiganrocks shares all that snow with us , is that just the one snowfall?
I have the fire going again as it is too miserable outside , 11 degrees C and cold southerly wind and hailshowers....this is almost summer??

Ewwwww Ron my sympathies! Glad I'm not in Michigan. What little we've had here and there hasn't stayed. Humbly thankful that the storm you guys got missed us. It's just starting to snow again here in northeastern Minnesota and is supposed to continue through Sunday but I'm hoping it won't be much. We were cold though, only 8° above this morning. Thanks for the pics, love the roses ... I'm so jealous. Much as I love them, I can't even grow nice roses in the summer Cher

Ron, all that snow is really beautiful, esp. since it is visiting you and not me! I love the snow, but I sure am glad I not longer live where I have to deal with it from now til March or April. Had enough of shoveling the sidewalk and driveway when I lived in Crested Butte. Maybe if I a still real ski dog, I could grin and bear it, but since I'm not, I am sure glad I live down here where there are mild winters! Sure is pretty though and I'm glad you posted that pic! And gave me something else to be thankful for! 8 DEGREES!!!! Yipes! It's 44 here, my heat is going full blast and my feet are so cold I might have to take another shower today just to get them warm! You folks that live in those cold climates are better men/women than me! I am a serious cold weenie! llana

Hi all. Hope everyone is fully stuffed and had a wonderful time with family and friends. Rollingstone, you actually scored very well. Ginko, 2nd one is wisteria, 3rd one is birch(and yes KD, that is a bird of paradise sticking his head in the pic) 4th one is another wisteria with my grinder in the backround, and 5th one is a chinese flowering quince. Those birch trees are 10yrs old and the wisteria's are pushing 24 yrs old. Ron, as I scrolled down and came to your pics, I just shuddered and said brrrrrrrrrrr. But at least the sun was shining and you had blue skies for Thanksgiving, it actually looks post card perfect, but no thanks on the trade. Jack, seems like you're having a late springtime storm. Is that normal down under? Anyway, sorry I strayed from rock pics, but I just wanted to share a little Calif fall color. Ed

That sure looks a lot nicer then it does around here right now Ed. Yellow roses are my wife's favorite too. I fooled with several bonsai plants some years ago.I bought books on the subject, read them,,,,plant died,,,,more books,,,next plant died,,,,,more books,,,,, I think I kept the bonsai plant industry and the book companies working 3 shifts but all my plants still ended up in the compost pile!! LOL Thanks Ed,,,, Tom
