Hello All! As requested (for the newer members), here is a butterfly I did a few years ago. I mounted it on the chunk agate that I cut it out of. Could you call this metamorphosis? The agate is self-collected from Utah. Thanks for looking!

That is amazing. Did you cut slots in the butterfly body to attach the wings? Wish I could see it a little better. Any chance of uploading photos that are just a little bigger?

OK hummingbirdstones and MsAli - I'll show you the detail on the underside in the next post of a butterfly - this one doesn't lend itself to a picture of the underside because it is mounted too close to the stone. I mounted this one on a little piece of wood carved to fit the underside of the body of the butterfly with small wooden protrusions to catch a little bit of each of the 4 wings. I also carved the wood to match the contour of the rough chunk. Once glued, the piece of wood holds everything together. Thanks for your comments!

The agate is self-collected from Utah. Thanks for looking! Hi Garry, really awesome work. What I found interesting after, yep, you guessed it, micro zooming, was the joining of the wings, the overall mounting technique and the antenna of the butterfly. Now you gotta tell us what they were made of.........please. One more observation, what you have created here, from the same agate that it is mounted on, is by all accounts a metamorphosis of a Sentient Being. Butterfly's have metaphysical attributes to sentience and you created it by bringing it forth from the rock. Also, since the butterfly will not burn, rot, fade, turn to dust or die and will, by all accounts, last for an eternity, you have by all measures, ...... wait for it......... like the famous sculptors of the Renaissance, Cellini' Bellini' and Michale Angelo among others, have created what amounts to immortality for yourself. Thus, you now can safely say that you , as a result of your fine work, have earned the right to walk with, and in the "Shadow of Giants."....... Dang that sounded good. But from where I sit, it's all true. Cheers, johnw

Butterfly knows the camouflage trick. Can’t tell it from the rock! Almost. Goood job! Thanks!
