Kim, you are getting pretty good at your stone work. I like it. Next you are going to have to wire wrap. I love the Spectrolite. Great colour.

It depends on the ISO in the stone, but, I think it flashes much better domed. At least in the pictures it has more Pizazz. The stones you did look better than a lot of the commercial cabs I have seen. You did real well.

ISO is, to make it real simple, the light refraction of the stone. In faceting, we shape certain facets to put fire in a spot in the stone, not neccesarily the center. The dome really puts the fire in the center of the stone. Labradorite has nice fire when it is cut well. There is random, COS, and ISO. Basically random is random fire throughout the stone, COS, the light varies with the cosine of the angle of inclination of the light rays, ISO, essentially the light is uniform in all directions. Now, what does that mean? Aside from inclusions, and planel refraction, the light enters the stone and exits after hitting X planes. Add a mirror plane, and the light bounces. Focus the bounce, and you have fire. Star saphires work the same way. Move the focus and the fire changes angle.

Kim, Those are amazing! Where did you get that spectrolite/labradorite stuff? It's gorgeous! Was it expensive?
You're doing a great job with your grinder. I gotta get me one of those! Not that I could do what you're doing......but I could try!

Beautiful job on those stones Kim. I'm still hoping to get a grinder someday but with the holidays, it won't be anywhere in the near future. Thanks for posting your pics. Cher
