Now for the questions.
Any one know what model it is? I know it is a Lortone.
Can anyone help me with what each of the wheels do?
I dont have the water hooked up yet, but hopefully tomorrow on monday, how fast of a water drip do you need? Does it work if you dip the rock into water then grind it etc? or will it be wet enough?
I am so excited about getting this, I thought it was a great deal.

Wow that's cool Bunny. Did you go to the lortone site to see if you could find it? What kind of a price did it run you? It's always great to see the members here get good deals on this stuff. Good for you!!

Congratulations, Bunny!!! That looks like a great set up, but I can't help with your questions. I don't have a grinding/polishing unit yet. OOOOH, you're gonna have SO much fun with that! Can't wait to see some of the stuff you turn out with it!

Gracious Goodafternoon! What a find! Don't know a dang thing about it, but I'm impressed that you plugged that puppy up and cut some stones. Great find, I'm so happy for you! cookie

Great find Bunny. Well, I guess you saved your husband some time! What size wheels are those? If you can, you might want to switch over to a diamond wheel and belts. They cost more, but last a long time and are safer. Use the wheel to rough out a shape, then the sanding wheel to sand finer and finer until it's ready to polish on the leather disc on the end of the shaft. Your all set to start cabbing. Have fun, and lets see some pics. Oh yea, you should have water flowing on the wheel. Dipping the stone doesn't keep the stone cool enough and the mud doesn't get washed out of the wheel.

Hello bcbunny,
I am not sure of the model number ... but one of my first lapidary units was identical to that exact model you have there.
I did find that it was cleaner to use water as the cutting coolant for the blade, other than oil. The oil was constantly on everything.
Your Father is still in our prayers, we will keep him there for some time. I hope you are doing well and the family too.
Take care,
John

Way to go, Bunny! Looks like you got a really nice unit. Now you can really have some fun! The inside wheel is for shaping your stones. It's probably a 100 grit wheel. The larger one is for your sanding belts - 220, 400, etc. The disc is for polishing. Although, I also use my disc for sanding pads. Hope you get to use yours more than I get to use mine! I just hate it when work interfers with my rocks and crafting stuff! llana

You've done real well BC I bet you're hiphopping happy Would love some machinery like it for myself. I saw some old bits and pieces in the clubrooms last night . Some not to be touched as they belong to someone else. Sigh I will get there rather sooner than later. Jack

Hello Bunny,
There are currently two of these units up on eBay with two different model numbers ... go figure!
Anyway when you get into eBay just put LORTONE in the search box and see if you can match yours with theirs.
It's not much help ... but, maybe you'll be able to find something that sounds good to you!
