A few more cabs finished last night/this morning. Getting as much done as possible before going back to school next week! This is another 17 credit semester but this time its all geology so I'll be going from playing with rocks at school to playing with rocks at home every day.
I also may have a DP Pixie on the way so am trying to get through my backlog before it gets here (I do all my work on a flat lap at the moment so could be just a little excited). Leopard skin, maligano, some sort of plume agate, leopard skin again, and bird's eye. I've got to go back and fix the outline of this agate, it's not quite symmetrical and not exactly pleasingly asymmetrical.
I've been working on this piece on and off with a variety of different polishes and techniques, there seem to just be too many soft spots to get a really good polish on it though - this is 14k diamond followed by cerium oxide.

Great job! The bird's eye rhyolite is a difficult stone to polish. I like the first one best- great color and pattern.

It seems to be the spherules that are the difficult parts to get polished. I suspect that due to their acicular/almost fibrous habit there are a variety of different mineral orientations which may contribute to some bits polishing before others in those areas. Could be off the mark, but that's what I've been thinking as I work on it.

Sounds good to me.

Loving #1 and #2, but they're all great cabs. Get that plume reshaped a little and it's gonna be a stunner, too!

Nicely done. Love the plume. It looks almost like sagenite in some spots.

Beautiful! I like the first one best - it's an unusual bit of leopardskin. Those rounded triangle templates - the guitar pick shape - I can't prove it without a whole bunch of trouble in photoshop, but I SWEAR the templates are asymmetrical - just slightly wonky. So it might not be your fault on that one.
