Went there once and the climb also me killed me, and the agate is in a seam that is almost impossible to chisel anything out.

Looks nicer than anything we found up there a few years ago. We scouted the ridge looking for anything else and I took a pretty good tumble on the way down carrying a bucket. Good times...

Yes, it is a tough climb since the road was (understandably) blocked off. Beautiful area, though. Still popular because it is in all the guidebooks and maps, but chances of being skunked are high with collecting depleting even the bits that used to be found in the slopes below. Going to take an earthquake to knock down some of the undercut overburden and expose more agate. Not a frequent earthquake area, though. Would have liked to have visited back in the days when it was first being dug, but wasn't collecting back then and aware of it.
Your pic nicely shows that silicified reddish layered area from which the plumes arise. It is the same feature found in Robinson Ranch Plume and Carey Plume, though separated miles apart and a bit different in colors. Distinguishes them from other plume agates. Makes me wonder if the same conditions/volcanic events formed all three plumes?

Back lit shot, not the best in the world but you get the idea, maybe will take it outside , sun is shinning.
