Here's a few different obsidian types from this collection I picked up last week. First stuff almost glows bluish grey. It's not silver sheen.. anyone know what it is? A nice big rainbow One with some sweet fire bands I didn't know what this was until I found an example of it on the ID board. Peanut Obsidian

In the second photo the rock on the left is my favorite. Looks like wood grain. Have not seen that in obsidian. The peanut is pricey and that looks like a nice chunk.

Very nice to find some Peanut obsidian in there. I've seen the pearly gray patterned obsidian from both Davis Creek and Glass Buttes. Not sure whether there is a common name for it. Some I've had gave off a subtle, hazy color-shift when turned under direct sunlight - sort of like moonstone. I've also seen some (from who-knows-where) cut as beads and sold as "rainbow."

I believe it is just called flow-banded obsidian. I like it.
Holy crud, though. I’ve never seen peanut obsidian before. That’s very cool.

Yes, that last one is peanut obsidian. The red spots are radial feldspar fibers containing iron.
