The amethyst crystal is what I want to wrap...how do I make a simple secure wrap with a hook (?) for a chain. A pendant for myself. I have 26 gauge wire - I think I need something heavier- the crystal is 3 cm long and about 1 1/2 wide.

Search for cowboy wrap. Probably the easiest.

Check out the tutorials here on wire wrapping. Maybe also do an internet search for wire wrapped crystals. Lots of good photo examples.

About the easiest way I know how is to bind 3 or 4 wires into a straight bundle, then separate the wires to bring them up along the object. Gather at the top, twist to make a bail and then place your flatnose pliers into the loose wires coming up the object and make a bend to tighten. This is a piece of coal.
