I started working on this little necklace for my little sweetie pie for Christmas last night. She'll be 4 in April. I have have had to restring this thing 3 times - twice I dropped a bead and didn't have another one to replace it to match the one on the other end! and the other time I broke the thread! Now that I have it finished and have taken a look at it, I realize that I probably didn't make it long enough! and am going to have to restring it AGAIN! Oh well, when I was almost through the last restringing I thought I should have used fishing line instead of thread anyway, so guess that's what I'll do the FOURTH time. How can such a tiny necklace give one such fits! Have to wait til Wed or Thursday when I should get my Fire Mountain order in with some bead tips to finish it anyway, but thought I'd go ahead and post a pic. I think it's cute and she will love it - her first Big Girl necklace. I always tell her I love her to pieces and I love all her pieces. She told her mom Thanksgiving "Aunt Grandma loves all my pieces, Mommy" It was too cute. llana BTW, I ain't gettin' any faster, I gotta get one of those magnifying glass things with a light on it and using those tiny seed beads is a lulu!

she's going to love it llana! i don't know if this helps but i measured my 5 y/o daughters neck for you and an 11" would be a choker and a good hanging length would be 13"-16".

Hey Llana, I think it looks great. I have a granddaughter with the same name. I think my son had a thing for Alyssa Milano.

Thanks all! I think she will really like it. Of course, she likes just about anything Aunt Grandma does! I gave her a little container of small rocks when she was here Thanksgiving and you would have thought I gave her the moon. She made me promise to bring her some bigger pretty rocks when she comes for Christmas. Ones that Joshua can't get in his mouth so she can share. She is a little doll. Kim, thanks for measuring your little one's neck. That will definitely help me get it right when I rework it. Ron, her parents had a heck of a time coming up with a name they both liked - Alyssa Leigh did the trick. I don't know if either one of them even know who Alyssa Milano is! KD, I am getting the hang of it and I can't believe how much I enjoy doing it! And how much money I am spending on beads and stuff! Got a wild hair, jumped in the truck and went to Hobby Lobby in San Antonio this afternoon and bought a bunch of beads! Just couldn't wait until Wednesday or Thursday when my shipment from Fire Mountain is suppose to be here. Just gotta bead!! I also went to Office Max and got me one of those magnifying/lights that Ron has and posted a pic of. Now that I will actually be able to see, no telling what I can do. Going to bead tonight and sit at the grinder all day tomorrow - or at least until my back hurts so bad I have to give it up! llana

yep, wild hairs and new addictions.......what we all need. uh huh. eyeballing new beads is SO much better than ordering from a distance....i envy you being within striking distance of San Antonio! i remember walking in to my first bead store, i didn't even know what to do!
i know i was just a tourist there, but i really liked it!
beadin' beadin' beadin' keep those doggies beadin' rawhide!

Llana, that's a lovely necklace. It looks long enough for a 4 year old to me. Did you measure it? I have an idea for people who sit to grind. When my late husband and I had a business we ran from our home, I manned the office. Some days I spent the day entirely in front of the computer. I have back problems too, so I tried a special kind of chair. It has pads for your knees and you sit on the seat and lean forward a little on the pads. It takes the pressure off your back and distributes the wieght evenly. Might be worth checking out.

I love the necklace, yes I have had to start a project over several times before I finally got it to where I wanted it. I love the magnifying glasses I got at Hobby Lobby, they have a head band and you can adjust the lenses to where ever you need. I now use them all of the time when I am working with wire and beads.
