I went to town yesterday AM to run errands for some neighbors. The roads were still very icy and the winds were high. Lots of blowing snow. Picked up neighbor's prescriptions and some OTC meds for them. Also some basic groceries for them and me. Delivered everything to neighbors. Made it almost to my house driveway and noticed a truck speeding up behind me. I had my turn signal on and had slowed down. There was an oncoming truck in the opposite lane. Tough choice. Risk being rear ended or see if I could quickly turn into my barn driveway. I chose the latter. Just missed the driveway. Car slid forward as I was making the quick turn. All is now well. Son in Law rescued me and pulled my car out. Damage was minimal.

Winter perils.
Around here, people are completely insane when we get snow. No one knows how to drive in it. Numerous accidents slow everything to a halt. We have so many bridges and tunnels, too, and they are no good in the ice. The city calls for everything to shut down.... and it does! After a a good snow, the city is dead. (After people figure out that they don't know how to drive in it!)
Glad it wasn't more serious!

I am glad too. Wisconsin is basically shut down today, except for EMS, those who work in health care, as care givers, etc. Some businesses remain open, but many who never close are closed.
Some counties have issued a no tow restriction for cars in ditches. Many areas have this "habit" of spreading salt on roads. When it is this cold either the salt does not melt the snow, or it melts the snow and then freezes. Since this was a dry snow, the high winds are causing snow to blow across roads in the country. In some places there are up to 4' snow drifts on the roads.
Recently saw where some interstate overpasses and ramps near me are closed to all but EMS.
Wind chills at my place are now about -60. I do not have to go outside, so am trying to stay warm inside.
My son in law is not that fortunate. He has to work today as a Deputy. On standby for National Guard duty in case of a major emergency. Daughter has to work for EMS, but will be inside the entire day.
This weather is crazy.
It is headed in your direction, so plan and stay safe.

I was working in Arizona in 1961 when they had a 4 foot snow fall at Flagstaff. Had to buy snow chains to get back to Utah for Christmas.

I was working in Arizona in 1961 when they had a 4 foot snow fall at Flagstaff. Had to buy snow chains to get back to Utah for Christmas. I was living in Northern AZ in 1986 when there was 4" of snow. Had to drive to Flagstaff with a co-worker. Was stopped by Tribal police. They wondered what I was doing on the road. When I showed them my DL, which was still a WI one, they laughed and told me to watch out for others. Asked where we were headed. Told them Flagstaff. They said to say safe and be careful, as there was more snow there. Was driving a 4WD vehicle. The closer we got to Flagstaff, the more snow there was. We made it, but there was no other traffic on the road for the last few miles.
