Looks like a bubble to me. Wonder when it will pop? The Gold, or the Dollar? To me, the Dollar appears to be a leaking old hot air balloon.

Looks like a bubble to me. Wonder when it will pop? The Gold, or the Dollar? To me, the Dollar appears to be a leaking old hot air balloon. The gold, for sure. The problem with currency is printing it in excess, and having it tied to basically nothing. IMO the shift of gold from strictly precious metal to something used for tech makes it now a poor currency standard. The bubble is a result of a lot of gullible people hoarding gold as an "investment", when at best it's a mediocre hedge against inflation in good times, a quixotic pursuit today.

I don't try to predict the future, and I'm not in it as an investment, but rockhounding got me into collecting silver, which I love.

Before putting the chart together and looking into what caused the fluctuations I hadn't realized how much Roosevelt had to do with it.
It is all about trust, faith and belief. As trust goes down so does value.

Many states are now eliminating sales tax on the exchange of gold and silver, making it possible to use the metals as methods of payment. Some people cheer this as a first step in nullifying the Federal Reserve.

I still wonder if the US has any gold reserves in their (unaudited) safes? Canada got rid of the last of the federal gold a few years ago (shame on them). What really surprises me is people who think the hedge against a paper dollar - - is going long on gold, also just paper. It seems to me that any gold investment should be in physical gold. I also laugh at folks who think Bitcoin in the new gold. On the other hand, it would have been nice to have bought up some cyber currency a number of years ago and dump it now.
