I never tire of cutting eggs. I cut one today that will be polished soon that is different. Put another in saw before I came in, should go out aand take a look at it but it has dropped down below freezing and it is nice and warm in here! The old body does not like the cold anymore!

Yeah, I just looked at their website- it says only an average of 1 in 20 cut make outstanding specimens. Still, that sounds like a great place to visit. I wouldn't mind spending a day digging there. It would take another day just to look at all that they have for sale!

I have also heard 1 in 10, these I am cutting today , I got 4 good ones in a row, but they come from aa bucket I bought the last trip I made, the diggings were closed due to rain, so I just picked thru the bins. The problem with digging them is knowing when to stop digging or have heavy wallet!

The hollow one is real nice! I also like the wisps of red in a couple of the others. I suppose it depends on what a particular person considers a keeper, what part of the bed is being dug (some folks insist on taking eggs from the upper layers, flattened eggs that are too don't have room for much inside, or even mud balls) and what one is looking for. From my experience, less than a quarter are just plain gray chalcedony, and even those can cut some interesting spheres or eggs. If someone is looking for something specific, like plume, the odds can get really steep (typically fewer than 1 in 100), and unless a piece of the shell breaks off during digging - which can ruin the egg - not much indication of what is inside until you slice it. And every egg is different, so finding a great one doesn't mean that those adjacent to it will look remotely similar. They used to call them "Surprise Eggs" and opening them is an addictive thrill. Richardson's puts a lot of work into the beds to make them easy and fun to dig, too. What I've found mysterious, on every trip I've taken down there, are the really interesting eggs people just toss out in the parking areas. I suppose some are trying to get their buckets of eggs down toward the minimum charge, but I've picked up some excellent examples without digging at all.

Liking the tube eggs..... At least the RR eggs give you a variety of different material to look at when cut... So many beds to choose from when digging there. Nice cuts Woodman..... As for the bone piles, I have a bigger bone pile than I do the bucket of goods, I keep... Hahahaha

The problem with digging them is knowing when to stop digging or have heavy wallet! 1 in 10, I'd take those odds. Some day I may have to order some to cut. Not sure I would be able to stop, I'd have a full bucket and full pockets purely based on how I hunt rocks around here!
