That's it. I really need to get a flat lap. I have a bucket of wholes, and a bucket of halves I got at an estate sale.
I've polished a few small ones on the Genie, but it's definitely not ideal for making flat faces.

Lately I have been by passing the flat lap and going directly to the bull wheel. works good if the saw marks are not too bad. Just have to get the oil off first .

That is a heck of a lot more money than I'll have available in the foreseeable future! Even a small flat lap is a stretch, but maybe doable one day. Plus I have to be able to put it somewhere. 😁

A piece here a piece there and pretty soon the shop is full. I was thinking I NEED a 24 inch saw but then I looked in the shop and saw that I don't have room for one. I would like to have one tho. sometimes the 18 is not big enougha nd the 30 is too big. such is life.

What grit are you running on the bull wheel? I start with 100 then 220 and sometimes 400. Are you using all of those on the disc, and if so do you have a fast way of swapping them out? I saw a guy putting a thunder egg on a coarse disc and then going to the belt for 400. It was amazing how fast it was.

I only use the belt, so far. I should try the disc one of these days. I got some 220 disc. It is pretty fast just using the belt, it is easy to round over the edges and I have to be careful about that. A richardson high speed sander was made to sand thundereggs. I have two bull wheels and I have 100 grit belt on one and 220 on the other, that makes it handy. a worn out 220 is about the same as using a 400.

Nice blues in that egg... Seen Roy operate his bull wheel and it doesn't take much time to get these eggs polished and out the door...

Nice snowy day so thought I would do a bit cutting. Just got this RR moss bed egg out of the saw, still wet with oil.

Woodman, are you going to slab and cab any of them? I usually do it with my broken eggs... Would rather do that than throw them in the bone pile...

Back lit slab of the moss egg, reds don't show up but they are there, may make a cab out of it.

A richardson high speed sander was made to sand thundereggs. Is a Richardson sander the same thing as a bull wheel? If not, does anyone have a pic of one?
