Work's a little slow today, so what to do? Take another picture of a Fairburn, of course!

A beauty. The banding is amazing. I love the black in it.
Have a question. Many of the Fairburns you are posting are similar to what I find on my land. The tan areas, especially. What type of rock are the tan areas? By me, they are either chalcedony (generic cop out term) or sugar quartz.
You are also finding many that have crystal vugs, same as me.
To me, glaciers had no boundaries and similar glacial drops can be found states away from each other.
I am very glad you were bored at work and shared this.

That's why I'm addicted to Fairburns, no two are the same. I wish I could answer your question but I really don't know. I've been doing some reading on the subject but don't know enough to tell anyone about it, if that makes sense. I'll have to get back to you on that. Yep, many do have crystal vugs but I don't mind. Most I'll keep for specimens anyway, they won't get tumbled. I agree with your glacier statement- it seems like a lot of the things people find are similar and just called different things due to location. And I'm glad you enjoyed looking at it as much as I do!

Curious, what are you finding similar to what Miket posted? Lake Superior agate maybe?

fussNot LS, but what is called local a jasper agate. Has the typical jasper look but includes some white/clear banding/formations and crystal pockets.
