Hi all. I was playing with some of the Mex Lace agate and got a real nice shine on one of the pieces, and while looking at it, started thinking that it might look good against a piece of maple or cherrywood. Well, the cherry won. This is what I came up with. Can't tell in the pic, but when the grain catches the light it is sort of irradescent. Think I'll try some more. Ed

Ed that's beautiful, and so is the stone it's laying on. (What is that?) What a great idea to set it on wood, what a great idea. Dang that stone is just stunning!!

That's lovely! Great idea, to place it on a wood backing like that. Did you coat the whole thing with polyurethane or something of the like? Again, great idea! Can I steal it? ;D

Wood and stone looks great! Good job. I prefer to inlay the stone in the wood in the knife handles I make. The trick is to get the stone and wood to sand identically. Looks real good.

Hi all. Thanks. I'll say one thing for sure, it's a helluva lot easier drilling into wood than it is stone. Cookie, I shaped, sanded, and finished the wood with gloss lacquer, then placed the stone on the wood. And yes you may steal the idea. Doc, this was just a trial piece. I'm gonna try inlaying the stones also. I've got a router bit set made for doing inlays, so no matter what shape the stone is, I can make an exact shaped hole for it to fit into. Edwieser

Wow, great idea. The Cherry really does compliment the Mex Lace.
I imagine with the right type of glue you don't have to worry about leaving an unlaquered area on the wood to glue the stone, right?

OW, stoner, that's pretty! I love that Mex lace! I am assuming you kinda traced the shape of the rock onto the wood or was the wood a workshop find that was already perfect for the stone? Needless to say, I'm gonna steal your idea! Gotta try that except no cherry down this way - unless I can sneak into someone's yard and chop down their cherry tree. llana

There's just something about natural stuff...I mean you put wood and stone together and it just goes. It's like it was all...planned. Wooooo deep thought alert! I think my head hurts. Great job.
